Metros in Amsterdam and Rotterdam
Mdina Media started a challenging project in May 2012 to operate public transport screens in the Dutch cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. For the metro systems, we created a tailor-made media player combined with an UMTS mobile router.
This meant that despite the low internet connectivity underground, each player could to display travel information on the metro trains through a wireless UMTS system. Within the metro stations themselves, the system can also be used to show commercials or other travel information.
Overground trams and buses
In 2012 Mdina was tasked to develop a special custom-made media player for trams and buses in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. This was specifically designed to protect our industrial-strength hardware from problems caused by bumpy roads and extreme variation in temperatures. Vibrations and shocks are no longer an issue for these overground public transport systems. An additional element of the solution was the incorporation of a wireless UMTS mobile router we incorporated.
National Rail in the UK
Mdina has been the hardware partner of choice for the UK’s National Rail network.
We developed a purpose-built media player with embedded systems to run the travel information and advertising on NEC Displays. First installed in 2015, our screens are still running 24/7 despite the big fluctuations in temperature between the summer and winter.

Mdina Players have been used in many McDonalds QSR restaurants where the greasy environment can be a real challenge to hardware. We have media players that are still driving displays in South Africa that are over 11 years old. That is testament to the quality of our solutions.
Our flagship client in the automotive sector is Jaguar Landrover. Mdina was contracted to provide robust Media Players as well as design and develop a custom interactive Sales associate display with an embedded media player.
We designed, sourced and customised a solution specific to the challenging content requirements that this interactive application required.

McDonalds
Mdina Media has been supplying digital media Players to various McDonalds stores around the world for many years. QSR environments are some of the most challenging spaces for hardware due to the grease associated with QSR restaurants. Designing and building hardware that lasts is a real challenge. Then add in a common requirement for multiple outputs off the same device and the stress on the hardware is exponentially more. Our Mdina media players have been running in McDonalds South Africa for over 11 years, and are still performing.
Jaguar Landrover
In 2015 Mdina were contracted by Jaguar Landrover to design, source and build an All-in-One touch display for the Jaguar Landrover Car configurator. Key features were responsiveness of touch, form factor and of course long term reliability. Our solutions are still being deployed globally.
